Over 400 generation connection assessment studies successfully completed. Mostly renewable generation additions. Around 130,000 MW generation capacity planned for the north-eastern grid.

Load flow, extensive stability studies, studies automation, extensive modeling and analysis trouble shooting, Identification and quantification of reactive power compensation, SVC applications, HVDC assessments, stabilizer parameters fixing to damp oscillations, identification of reinforcement requirements. Detailed system impact studies, steady state, and dynamics, to identify all adverse system Impacts and facility additions on TVA’s transmission system in order to maintain system reliability. NERC TPL-001 P1-P7. Power quality studies, harmonics, flicker, voltage studies. EMT model adequacy and basic performance evaluation, PSCAD and PSSE model validation during commissioning, and Other PSCAD Studies. 

Database review and quality checks for IESO-controlled grid system model. Load flow studies for new connections for about 150 and 100 MW. Review interface loadings, linear analysis, Voltage impact studies, and contingency analysis, Local area impact review, Transient stability studies & wind gust analysis. Presentation and meetings with Hydro One Networks Inc. & IESO. Relevance to IESO’s subject scope: Load flow studies for new connections, such as the 150 MW and 100 MW generation units, help evaluate the impact of these new assets on grid stability and potential vulnerabilities during outages. The review of interface loadings, voltage impact studies, and contingency analysis helps identify areas of concern in terms of grid capacity and stability during abnormal conditions. Transient stability studies and wind gust analysis assess the grid’s ability to handle sudden disturbances, such as extreme weather events, which could trigger outages. 

Successfully executed a high-impact project under the ADB-funded MFF Second Power Transmission Enhancement Investment Program, aimed at strengthening the national power infrastructure. The scope of work included the construction of new transmission lines, expansion and augmentation of existing substations, and installation of advanced shunt reactors to improve grid stability. Additionally, protection equipment was replaced and upgraded at 11 critical grid stations, ensuring enhanced reliability and efficiency in power transmission. 

SPP-DISIS-2012 – Group-14 – Oklahoma Electric and Gas Company. Conducted Generation Interconnection Impact studies using PSS/E for a wind generation project. Performed power factor analysis, identified and quantified reactive power compensation, and carried out extensive load flow and stability studies. 

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) PowerTek successfully conducted a comprehensive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to identify, analyze, and resolve critical system failures, operational inefficiencies, and reliability issues.  

The work included:  

  • Data Collection & Site Inspections:  
  • Conducted extensive field visits across multiple regions, gathering relevant operational data, failure records, and maintenance logs.  
  • Inspected network infrastructure, equipment health, and historical performance to identify potential failure points.  
  • Structured RCA Sessions & Investigations:  
  • Organized and led targeted RCA workshops with key operational teams and senior management.  
  • Applied industry-standard RCA methodologies, including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and 5 Whys, to systematically trace failure causes.  
  • Conducted forensic engineering audits to assess component failures, system vulnerabilities, and process inefficiencies.  
  • Findings & Key Root Causes Identified:  
  • Detected underlying protection coordination gaps leading to frequent tripping incidents.  
  • Identified voltage instability and transient overvoltage events as contributing factors to system failures.  
  • Uncovered maintenance gaps in insulation degradation, breaker misoperations, and transformer overheating.  
  • Developed and Implemented Corrective Actions:  
  • Designed and implemented corrective and preventive measures (CAPA) to mitigate recurrence.  
  • Adjusted protection relay settings, operational workflows, and grid control strategies to improve reliability.  
  • Recommended infrastructure reinforcements, including improved monitoring systems and predictive maintenance strategies.  
  • Monitoring & Verification:  
  • Established continuous monitoring protocols to track the effectiveness of implemented solutions.  
  • Developed a reporting framework to ensure sustained reliability improvements.  
  • Provided training and knowledge transfer to SEC personnel on new investigative approaches and preventive strategies.
