Study of Optimisation of Reactive Power Compensation for WAPDA Transmission System and Preparation of Specifications for Compensation Equipment

Objectives/background/needs: WAPDA was expecting surge of new generation in southern part of the network which required a quick transfer capacity increase from south to northern load centers.

Key deliverables and solution provided: Recommendations to enhance EHV transmission system capacity for transferring bulk power over long distance across the country considering the options of SVC, Series compensation.  Transmission System Optimization with respect to incoming IPPs generation capacity additions. Planning criteria review, Review of previous transmission plans and reports.

Load flow and transient stability studies, and Optimal power flow analysis using PSS/E, PSS/OPF and TPLAN software programs. Electrical, mechanical and civil specifications for series compensation equipment.
